Visiting Kiev (Kyiv)
Kiev is the city where the modern and the ancient make wonderful opportunities for cultural and aesthetical tourism. Nevertheless, before you visit this incredible city, take your time to decide on at least 2 questions: where you will spend your nights and how you are going to get around the place.
Let us discuss choosing a place to stay. Depending on what you can afford and your tastes, you could either choose to rent a room in a Kiev hotel, or rent an apartment. For the cost of a modest hotel room in the price range of $90-150 you could rent an excellent flat in the city center. Single room cheep flats can be found for no more than $50. Of course noone comes to Kyiv to spend their time indoors. The megalopolis has lots of wonderful places to visit if you can get around. Do not worry, though. The system of public transport is fairly appropriate.
The most convenient way of moving around is Kiev taxis. It will deliver you you from the airport to wherever you are staying for no more than $35. In fact, for a visitor from the European Union or the US, the taxi service should be quite affordable. It is easy to taxi Kiev around. Nevertheless, in case you do not inrend to use only taxis in Kiev, the city has some other transport options to offer.
First of all, it is the metro that covers most of the city. It is especially convenient when you have to travel large distances during rush hours with huge traffic jams on the roads. Second of all, you can use buses, trolley busses and trams. These are quite inexpensive: you are charged a fixed fee to travel any distance. However, they don't have a schedule of passage. Third, you could always walk around or use Kiev's unique transport - funicular that escalates the bank of the Dnieper. At last, you can just use your feet.
Come to Kiev. The city has got plenty of entertainments to please an aspiring tourist.
